playing with cs5 demo

Opacity does seem to respond to my crappy tablet better than in cs4.

Panning(H) is still retarded if you're in windowed mode.

Rotating(R) is still retarded if you're in full window or full screen mode. SERIOUSLY, who rotates their paper (document/canvas) around the center of their DESK (monitor)? EVERYONE rotates their paper around the center of (or some arbitrary point within) THE PAPER ITSELF!

The alt+shift+right click color picker is kindof interesting but still feels awkward. It should explicityl forbid your pointer from leaving the sware or circle area unless you press space. As it is now I constantly move one of the 2 markers by accident as I move my pen around and stray into the other area.

I still really wish there was a circular color wheel version of the color panel (like painter)!

I can't do much with the new brushes since my tablet doesn't have twist or tilt detection :(

alt + right click + drag to change brush size / hardness is better (I guess) but it's still not as good as the brush-size on-canvas widget that's in autodesk sketchbook pro (click & drag only, no keyboard needed) or the simble b+drag that's in many other programs.

A better addition would have been to make [ and ] SMOOTHLY scale the brush size up and down instead of jumping in increments.

Still can't apply dynamic softening to custom made brushes.

Still no tool like painter's image hose or z-brushes roller brush :(

The 3-d stuff is still soooo slow and the panels for working with it are still so tiny, and cramped. "3D" even when you minimize it to it's basic functionality requires a tonne of variables, inputs, settings etc. That large number of things needs a good sized user interface.

I still say adobe needs to create and sell a photoshop specific input-device. There are so many settings I tweak in the space of 5 minutes of (trying to) painting that it really makes sense to have a 2nd keyboard with every key bound to a photoshop shortcut or action/macro while the main keyboard behaves normally.

Things I wish were assigned to single keys on a 2nd keyboard that I'd probably be using with my feet:
save
save as
new layer
next/prev layer
move layer up
move layer down
rename current layer
toggle visibility of current layer
next/prev document
reset document rotation
flip document horizontally
focus layer mask/focus layer/focus vector mask
...other's that have slipped my mind
